Our Company Story

Candeo Lava Products Inc. (Candeo) was established in 2013 by William Hogan and Lindsay Young, who hypothesized that the volcanic rock material at the Can-Cal Resources Ltd. Pisgah Crater property in San Bernardino County, California might have the potential to be used as a plant growth enhancement medium.

Starting with an internal matrix validation experiment using green onions, Candeo was encouraged by dramatic results from a visual/qualitative point of view: plant size and abundant root growth/volume had noticeably increased.

Integral Green Onion Validation

The impressive results of this green onion matrix validation gave Candeo the confidence to seek out a strong reverence from the University of California, Davis, of a well-known and experienced third-party agronomist, David Holden of Holden Research and Consulting of Camarillo, California.

Holden Research’s initial qualifying matrix validation in a “seed to emergence” experiment with corn and squash had very positive results—especially in the 2% by soil volume tray that visually resulted in larger plants, abundant root development and noticeably damper soil compared to the tray with 0% UTC (“Untreated Control”) of no Candeo Lava Rock material.

These visual results lead David Holden to proceed with extensive quantified validation matrices protocols with Strawberries, Bell Peppers, Green Onions, Celery and Tomatoes over the entire growing season of each plant.

The results were stunning and consistant especially in the Strawberry matrix validation, which indicated:

Enhance plant crop yield

0% UTC

Significant increases in an abundance of roots vs. very little root growth with 0% UTC of Candeo Lava Rock

-25 to -35%

A dramatic drop in the amount of water required (-25% to -35%)
